Moving into a care home made easy

Our care team are here to make sure that making the move is as easy as possible for you and your loved one. If you still need reassurance, here are some stories from our residents, their families and our care team.

Residents at The Westbourne continue to enjoy the theme of Italy with an array of Italian food to sample. The chef served a taste of Italy in true style in the dining room and was happy to lend his Italian chef hat to diners for the day. A great celebration of Italian food.

Throughout the month we have had Olympic activities. Our home has been split into 2 teams, a red team and a blue team. All staff on shift tomorrow for the party have been told which team they will be competing on and are going to be dressed up in their team colours.

We did Bowerfield Olympics. We had a red and a blue team, residents and staff went against each other in a number of activities. Everyone had so much fun. We enjoyed a buffet party, and celebrated a number of birthdays including a staff member turning 21.

We chatted about the colours of autumn, read poems about the season and traditions from around the world.

Abingdon Court are celebrating after being rated Good in all areas during a recent CQC inspection. As well as thanking the staff for their hard work we want to thank the residents, their friends and families and the local community who continue to support us.

People living at Croft House Care Home have had a busy month making poppy and pumpkin wreaths. They look fantastic and are displayed around the home.

We started this with some of our residents at Croft House as just a creative session for the family visits to raise a bit of money for the Royal British Legion. It has taken off so well and we are close to raising £70 so far and still got orders coming, we all feel so proud.

The Autumn season started on Tuesday 22nd September. The residents at Oaklands decided this would be a good day to dedicate to starting our Autumn projects. We decided to do some Autumnal pictures to hang on the walls around the home.

Harpreet Kaur, receptionist at Allingham House was a recent winner in Maria Mallaband and Countrywide Care Home annual awards, as Hospitality Hero 2020. Through numerous votes, Harpreet was recognised as an asset to Allingham House, doing everything asked of her with a smile.

Manorhey Care Home are presently upgrading their dementia unit, to ensure our residents have an enriched experience in their daily lives. The most recent area completed is a nursery.

Active minds have great resources which specialise in activities for the Elderly and those with Dementia.

One of our new regular activities is puzzle club! It gives people a chance to get together, socialise and work together to complete puzzles!

In Rutland we have enjoyed making suncatchers this week! The residents have really enjoyed making them and they have had so many compliments! They really brighten the place up and I look forward to adding many more to the collection.

Continuing with our goal to make the home as colourful and vibrant as possible, today we painted windchimes! When the weather is nicer again they will finish their journey by moving to the garden, but for now they are making the dining room look lovely!

Residents and staff have been busy creating some Halloween decorations for the home. The residents really enjoyed getting involved and creating different faces, there was lots of laughter. They have now been hung up around the home along with our other spooky decorations.

At Allingham House we held a Roaring 1920’s party. We had a photoshoot where the residents could pose for a picture.

Here at Allingham House we have had a very busy week. The residents were baking on Thursday and they really enjoyed it.

At Allingham House they have a nursery next door, Bright Horizons. The children from the nursery have responded to the cards that the residents sent to them telling them how much they miss their visits.

At Amber Court we recently celebrated Christopher’s 29th birthday and combined it with our very own Blackpool Illuminations Switch-on party. Lunch was themed as Christopher’s favourite food - McDonalds and one of our chef’s made a McDonalds themed birthday cake.

At Wyndham Hall we want to encourage people to be safe so we used a bit of humour and paid tribute to the late great Freddie Mecury.

Staff and residents at Parkview House took part in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk to raise money for the chairty.

We have had an afternoon of pumpkin painting, using a variety of different mediums. The residents found the pumpkins very interesting and didn't stop at just one because they enjoyed so much. We also sang along to the music as we created beautiful art work.

On escorting to the salon our residents are made to feel comfortable whilst having there hair done and listening to relaxing music. Each residents is given the opportunity to choose how they would like there styled.

We hosted a Macmillan coffee morning this week at The Belvedere Care Home. The residents and staff both enjoyed getting involved and raising money for a great charity.

We love our sweet shop area at Belmont House where we have lots of the memento's from the past which the residents can enjoy whilst visiting the shop. We think it makes such a lovely display at the home for our residents who suffer from Dementia

In September residents at Willow Bank were treated to an outdoor performance by Sam and Natalie from the arts Together for Care Homes project. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and the residents enjoyed sitting out in the sun and listening to the performance.

The weather tried to ruin the plans for the Brunel House Carnival & Circus but undeterred we just moved inside and had the most amazing day.

September was a month we did a lot of home baking, the weather has started to change a little making getting out into our private grounds a little more difficult so instead we made butterfly cakes, buns and bread sticks over the course of the month which we thoroughly enjoyed.
