Dementia is a condition associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, contributing to 60-70% of cases.

Safety measures and monitoring

People living with dementia can accidentally put themselves in danger, especially as the condition progresses. Memory loss and decreased cognitive impairment can have an adverse effect on those living with dementia, and their ability to go about their daily lives. To ensure safe environments at all times, we do have some increased security measures in place.

These include the safe storage of potentially dangerous medication, and locking away appliances which could cause a hazard or accident, where appropriate. The monitoring of resident’s movements help to maintain secured environments where required, for everyone that we care for. All rooms have fire alarms as standard, and call systems are fitted in most rooms.

Meaningful activities

Our More… lifestyle programme supports residents to take part in meaningful activities that create a sense of purpose. Through reminiscence, time outdoors, puzzles and day-to-day tasks such as making a drink, we support independence and social interactions with others to build relationships and trust, which in turn creates a feeling of belonging.

Familiarity and routine

We know interactions with loved ones and purposely designed homes with wayfinding features are important in keeping a sense of familiarity in our homes. However, through understanding each person individually we can ensure familiar routines are listened to and continued.

Nursing care and support

Many of our homes also provide round-the-clock nursing care for residents with higher care needs. Centred around our residents' wellbeing, we maintain a comfortable lifestyle and environment, healthy nutrition and strong communication.

End-of-life care

The conditions of dementia are likely to be life limiting for most people, and our homes offer full care and support as a person progresses towards end of life care – also known as palliative care. The care we provide during this time is always respectful to a person's needs and wishes, as well as the needs and wishes of the family around them.
