I was at university studying Law in the late 80's but finding it hard. My parents told me to take 6 months out and go earn some money working in hotels for the summer then go back to it. I did this and started my Hospitality career in a hotel restaurant.
I never did return to Law and have remained in Hospitality ever since. I gained many qualifications along the way including a degree and worked hard to get myself to a Senior Manager position. No regrets!
Before I joined MMCG, I had never worked with the elderly or those living with Dementia. I have learnt so much about Dementia and care of the elderly, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I also had no knowledge of Dysphasia diets and now my knowledge is broad. I came into the Care Sector after being furloughed in Lockdown 1 but wanted to use my Hospitality experience within a different sector.
My Manager is very supportive and Kings Manor is a great place to work, generally most staff are happy to be at work. We are lucky that we support each other well across all departments.
Seeing those who live with us looking happy and getting to know them all is my favourite thing about working in care. I also get a lot of satisfaction from their families when they thank us - it means a lot and I know they trust that we are caring for their relative well,. achieving the high standards we set.
