Weekly Outings into the Community
At Bowerfield Court one of our main goals at the moment for activities is to get our residents out into the community as much as possible. We started our Wednesday outings last Summer and we have been continuing them ever since. The home's Activities Coordinator has also been searching to find new, stimulating, sociable and suitable places to take each individual to cater to their own interests. Some of the outings that has taken place include cuppa and chat mornings at local community centres, Lyme Park visits, Marple Garden House, garden centres, pub outings etc.
This month we tried out a brand new place! It is called Noah's A.R.T in Dukinfield. It was a bit further than our usual local outings, but we had a fantastic time (thank-you to our maintenance man Mark for taking the time to get us there and back).
We were warmly welcomed from the Noah's A.R.T staff and they offered us jacket potatoes and hot drinks. We chatted with others at the session and checked out their other animals. They had everything from rabbits, to bearded dragons, snails and rats. They host private therapy sessions with their rescued animals and on Tuesday's (when we went) have their open therapy session where they request donations only.
We even got to enjoy their art session of clay modelling. They have an artist and other volunteers who are always working on a project in the facility. Karen and I got to model some clay for their project where they are going to combine everyone's artwork into one piece.
The special thing about these Wednesday outings is that it is helping to bring Bowerfield Court and House closer together. We tend to only do our large fundraising events as a team, but now we are giving the residents from separate homes the chance to socialize with one another. Each week at least one resident from Bowerfield Court and one resident from Bowerfield House go out. Every resident is excited for their turn to go out and we are excited to continue these adventures and find new and special places to visit
