Virtual Reality Experience

Staff at Allingham House really enjoyed this magnificent training and can't wait for the next sessions.

Claire Ford is a registered nurse and PhD student researcher at the University of Manchester. She is conducting a research project where she is designing, developing and feasibility testing a falls awareness and prevention training prototype using Virtual Reality in care homes across Greater Manchester.

We realised that here was a need for falls awareness training in care homes and nursing homes as a response to the residents risk of falling due to complex health and care needs. Virtual Reality is being used in other trainings programmes in other industries, and is effective due engaging, immersive nature. We think that Virtual Reality is a great way for care staff to learn about falls awareness and prevention as it is practical, and gives them an idea of what it feels like to be a residents who is at risk of falling.

The feedback from staff will help develop the prototype further so it is suitable and reliable to staff needs.

Everyone who has tried it has really understood the risk of falling.
