VE Day Memories

We love hearing stories from yesteryear at Willowdene Care Home on Lizards Lane, Sedgefield and VE Day proved to be an amazing day for that.  

Meet our fabulous resident Ivy who is 105 years old.  She was 30 years old and married to Tom who was a solider when the first VE Day was celebrated and she recalls they had a big party and singing and dancing in the streets.  The atmosphere was magical and everyone baked lovely cakes, pies and treats and shared everything with their neighbours.

Neighbours old and young joined in and it was such a happy time for everyone.

She remembers making clothes fancy dress’s from patterns that she had seen which she pinned and cut out and then sewed.  It was a very different time to now but we had such good friends back then and the community spirit the home is receiving from everyone reminds her very much of the community spirit back then.
