Surprise Pen Pals At Windmill
A community initiative has seen young people in Slough helping to keep up the spirits of residents in care homes across the town, including here at Windmill Care Centre.
Several of our residents have become surprise new pen pals including our lovely resident Dorothy Laing who is really enjoying receiving these letters.
“They have been wondering how life is with me at my age”, she said and is really impressed with their questions. “I can see that they are all very clever girls and we have been enjoying exchanging news about our lives”.
Dorothy has always enjoyed letter writing and has in the past even had some items published she told Bridgitte Tetteh, host of BBC Radio Berkshire mid-morning Saturday show, which featured Dorothy talking about her experience of this local initiative. Her only concern now is her “funny handwriting”, which is however still beautifully neat and flows across the page.
The fantastic support that our residents and staff have received from the local community has been truly amazing and we cannot thank everyone enough for all the letters, paintings and delicious cakes that have been sent to the home throughout this difficult period.
