St George's Day Party

We love a good knees up here at Abingdon Court, so it was no surprise that we had to arrange a party to celebrate St Georges Day! Throughout the week, we enjoyed themed quizzes to remind ourselves why we celebrate St Georges day, learning new facts and being reminded of old ones. We also teamed up to make our own St Georges flags which we used as decorations at our big bash on the actual day.

With tradition in mind, the day was themed around Morris dancing, as this is something many people who live at Abingdon grew up seeing on St Georges day. We watched videos of Morris dancing  groups performing in squares around the country (we even found one based in Abingdon, which was quickly recognised by many). Our activities team danced around with bells, doing their best to emulate the style of Morris dancing, which provided much entertainment for the people at the party. Some even got on their feet and danced with us!

There was also a  “British party grub” buffet, with much classics such as cheese and pineapple sticks, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, and finished off with a bowl of good old fashioned trifle. The atmosphere was truly glorious and you could tell great fun was had by all!
