St David's Day

An enjoyable and celebrated occasion was held at Ashmead Care Centre on 1st March 2021 for St David’s Day. The theme was Rugby and prior to the day itself, residents were encouraged to make their own Welsh Love Spoon (pictured), an explained of which is below:-

“The custom of giving hand carved love spoons to loved ones began in Wales in the 17th century. A love spoon can be given a meaning depending on the symbols used for its design:-

Hearts = Love, Bells =Wedding/Anniversary, Lock=Security, Spheres=Children, Twisted Stem=Growing Love, Cross=Faith, Anchor=Steadfastness, Dragon=Protection”

During the day, residents, and staff alike, enjoyed music from Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey, whilst indulging into homemade Welsh cakes, made by the Activities Team.

Ashmead were also honoured with a visit from a celebrity; Dylan the Dragon joined us. Dylan is best know for his appearance on the movie, “Notting Hill”.
