Olympic Fever

As July came around, our home was hit with a case of Olympic fever. Eyes glued to the TV’s as we gawp with pride at the fantastic Olympians from all across the globe, as they compete for coveted titles in sports which have provided entertainment and joy for those who live here, for their entire lives.

We hosted our own Olympic Games Ceremony complete with the famous Olympic Torch Relay. Many gathered in the corridors and the lounges to cheer as the torch passed through the home, held with pride by our wonderful volunteer troupe of torchbearers. This really set the scene for our games which were to be held later that afternoon.

Once the torch had been planted in our garden, we were able to begin the games! The sun was shining, and everybody gathered in the garden with high anticipation. We had 3 events planned – beach volleyball, bean bag throwing, and rubber duck shoot-out! The group rotated and participated in each event, with light-hearted yet sporting competition. It was smiles all around as we laughed at some fails and cheered at some successes.

As the day passed, there was only one way we could sign off the day, and that was with a soft, refreshing Mr Whippy from our local ice cream van, who kindly pulled into our car park so those who live here could choose which ice cream and toppings they would prefer! It was the perfect ending to the day.
