King Cake
Sadly we have taken our lovely Christmas trees and decorations down, one of our first activities this year was to make Kings cake. The King Cake tradition was believed to of originated in France and brought to New Orleans in 1870. It is eaten on the 6th of January in honour of Ephiany, or Twelfth Night, which historically marks the arrival of the Three Wise Kings in Bethlehem who delivered gifts for baby Jesus. King Cake in most traditions are oval shaped symbolizing the unity of faiths and if you are lucky enough you may be the finder of the little plastic baby or Bean which represents baby Jesus that is hidden inside the cake. It is said that who ever receives this special slice will be declared a King for the day. We had a lovely morning learning about the history on King Cake and also the different ways its made and decorated around the world. We gave it a good shot and made our very own King cake which we had with a lovely cup of tea. Our residents really enjoyed baking and eating it so it is now definitely a new tradition here in our home.
Here's to a Wonderful year filled with lots of positivity, love and huge amounts of laughter.
