Helping the Community
Here at Yohden Care Complex based on Hesleden Road in Blackhall we have always prided ourselves on being part of the Blackhall Colliery community. Our staff thought it would be a great idea to all donate £1 or an item to set up food and toiletry parcels for the community who had to either self-isolate or have to look after elderly residents or children to help with supplies during the current situation.
We wanted to focus on the elderly citizens in Blackhall, Peterlee, Horden and Eastington starting with the aged miners housing areas. The parcels were all packed up at Yohden and distributed to the door steps of our community with a card to let them know we are thinking of them designed by the residents of Yohden Care Complex and a lovely verse printed off and stuck inside of the cards to reassure those affected by the hard times that they are not alone and are in our thoughts. The packs contained toilet roll, tea, coffee, sugar, toothbrush, toothpaste, biscuits, assorted tins, Dettol wipes, milk, shortbread, tissues, pasta, packet pastas and noodles. The note said hello, please accept our little care package, we hope this helps you in our time of need. Stay safe with much love from the Home Manager and all at Yohden Care Complex.
One of our younger residents at Yohden, who doesn’t have to self-isolate was delighted to go along with our staff to deliver the parcels to Blackhall and we hope you all enjoyed the items. Once the home is open to visitors we would love to have you all visit us for a cup of tea and cake and share stories of this strange time we are all facing.
