Harry & George

One of the heartwarming stories of this year at MMCG was the amazing friendship between schoolboy Harry Evans and Howgate House member George Spiby, 65.

Starting as nothing more than a smile and a wave from the window on Harry’s walk to school, it blossomed into a fast friendship with Harry making pictures and writing cards to be delivered to his friend, and with George happily writing back.

After months of long-distance waves and letters, Harry and his family were invited to be special guests at a party at the care home in the last week of May, and these two friends, decades apart in age, were finally able to share a special moment in person at last, albeit, through a window.

Harry’s visits quickly became a source of joy for everyone involved and the whole experience has shown that we can all still care and look out for each other in our communities despite everything that’s been happening across the globe.
