Getting to know you with Katy
This month we welcomed Katy to the home as an Activity Coordinator and we wanted her to feel welcome. Therefore we created activities that enabled both Katy to get to know our residents but also for our residents to get to know Katy.
These included getting to know you art with music where residents got to draw pictures that represented something they liked or something they used to enjoy doing and the chance to chat with Katy and play music they like. Katy also did some one to ones where Katy did crafts and chatted to residents. Alongside a reminiscent show and tell where Katy bought in pictures and objects to show residents about herself to spark conversation and for them to talk about their own past. When asked many residents have said its lovely to have Katy and they are enjoying getting to know her.
Katy said ‘I have settled in now and slowly getting to know all the staff and residents. We did a lovely activity that was a great ice breaker, writing and drawing things that we really enjoy and love. I also shared some photographs of my children and some pictures of me performing in shows and it really helped to start conversation and a great opportunity to share stories. I have been introducing music and movement, alongside name that tune that the residents seem to be enjoying. And the weekly sing-along has become very popular at the weekend.’
