Garden Hill residents celebrate in style at 1940's themed party

We had a great time on 20th January hosting a 1940's party.  We got dressed up and had our hair done by our activities coordinator Stacey Adams.  We had old songs playing on the record player, arts and crafts and food tasting from back in the day.

We had Battenburg cakes and fruit scones for their afternoon tea snack and then evening meal we had Woolton Pie for dinner with jam roly poly for dessert.

The residents have had a fantastic time and we even had a visit from the photographer from the Shields Gazette who took our picture for the newspaper.

Some of the families popped in during the morning and were dancing with the residents to the music whilst they were setting up the activity.  There was lots of singing along to the songs and one of the residents, Walter, led the singing of Run Rabbit Run.  Mari said there was too much butter on the scones they were rationing that back then but still enjoyed it.  Joan Hunnam was 5 years old during the War and remembers being evacuated and hiding in the shelters it was a scary time for them but lots of happy memories too.  She was telling the staff about it and even now her eye still fill up when she recalls the memories.
