Care Home Open Week – celebrating what we do!
Care Home Open Week is just around the corner and we want to embrace this fantastic opportunity to shine a spotlight on what we do across our care homes.
This annual initiative, which this year takes place from June 28 to July 4, is a chance to celebrate social care and highlight everything care homes and their residents have to offer – and that is a lot!
Organised by Championing Social Care, a volunteer-led group of leaders from across the social care sector, Care Home Open Week aims to promote better public understanding, appreciation and respect for social care, through sharing positive stories and initiatives from the sector.
Never has the role of social care been more well recognised following its incredible work throughout the pandemic, which has rightly seen the profile of the sector raised and the contributions of care staff get some of the recognition they so richly deserve. Care homes are full of caring, committed, inspiring individuals helping to care for special, unique, remarkable people, and this is a chance for us to show that.
Throwing open our doors and welcoming the community is something that comes naturally to us at Maria Mallaband – but after a year in which the pandemic has frustratingly forced us to keep our distance, we are more excited than ever by this year’s open week.
With safety in mind, we will be hosting a mixture of virtual and distance events, sharing our stories and shining the spotlight on the incredible people living and working in our homes up and down the country.
We’re on a mission to find creative and innovative ways to bring the community in, as well as getting those living in our homes back out there, connecting with schools, clubs and community groups, and working with charities and organisations.
Our homes are communities in themselves, but also very much part of the wider communities of which they’re a part, and fundraising, sending out care packages, sponsoring local sports clubs, and inviting community groups in to use our home’s facilities are some of the many ways we keep connected. As the lockdown restrictions are lifted slowly it is wonderful to be able to re-engage with old friends, and forge new relationships in the community too.
And, of course, we’re open for visits from prospective families looking to discover more about the care we offer, the environments we build and the teams behind it all.
