Birds at The Hawthorns
Today we made some bird feeders to place in the garden. The residents helped tie knots in the string and advised me on where to hang the feeders. There was also a bird identifying quiz. The residents knew some of the birds straight away and debated on others. This was a lovely activity as the residents talked about the birds they like and stories of birds they remembered from when they were younger. Such as certain robins coming to their garden everyday as they are territorial. Or big hawks they had seen swoop to catch prey in a field.
In the morning, 3 residents told me what birds they had already seen coming to the feeders. They were so excited to tell me and show me which feeders were doing well. They had seen Blue tits, Robins, Blackbirds, and a cheeky squirrel.
