Arts & Crafts

This week we brought a splash of colour into the lives of the Knights Court residents. We took out our colouring pencils and colouring sheets kindly donated to us by Morrison’s and threw ourselves into to this life enhancing activity.

Colouring helps with coordination and muscle control. As we age, it becomes more difficult to control and coordinate the muscles of our arms and hands. Colouring can help to exercise and strengthen these muscles. It can contribute to better hand-eye coordination, greater dexterity, and over-all strengthening of fine motor skills. This can make many routine daily activities a little easier. Colouring is also a great way to de-stress, forget about pain or other ailments, and focus on something pleasurable in the moment. It is also a great way to express thoughts and feelings without having to use words especially for the elderly who are recovering from a stroke or who are dealing with memory issues or conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. It also Improves mood and enables our residents to see life in a more colourful way.
